墨田区立中和小学校開校150周年事業として、全校生徒297名で参加して制作された。墨田区にゆかりのある北斎の「神奈川沖波裏」の波の部分を子供達一人一人が描き、「50年後に残したいもの、50年後の未来」を表現した。

The Great Wave Project – Chuwa Elementary School

2024 / Sumida Ward, Tokyo, Japan

We created a mural, helped by all 297 students at Chuwa Elementary School in Sumida Ward, to mark the school’s 150th anniversary. Each child drew a part of the wave that features in Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a work connected with Sumida Ward, as a way of expressing the future fifty years from now and what they want to still be preserved at that time.
